Strange Thing #30: Department meetings come fully equipped with alcohol.
I try, I really do, but how can one be expected to go to gym, study, read papers, do laundry in the evenings when anytime you happen to meet up with more than one professor at a time, wine and beer are provided?

I'm not following. Is that a bad thing? ;)

So is everyone in your school a member of Kappa Epsilon Gamma (KEG)? Sounds like every hour in that school is happy hour.

Par for the course. Brits will turn any occasion into a drinking one at the drop of a hat. Any excuse for a get together will do. Usually, this is completely unsanctioned. Often, it is strictly against the rules. Even if it doesn't start out like this, the whole affair will often decamp to the nearest bar, particularly if that means outside in hot weather.
